The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust has been a part of the fabric of the city for nearly 45 years. Over 20 million people have visited us in this time, and left with a vastly improved understanding of reptiles and our ecosystem. We currently have over 2000 adult crocodiles, 100 juvenile crocodiles and 100 individuals of other species (snakes, tortoises, turtles and lizards) to help educate the public. Apart from the Zoo, we have established several field based projects over the years such as the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS) and the Gharial Ecology Project (GEP). The croc bank is the nerve centre for all of these initiatives even today.
